You are invited to join the Downtown Cleveland Residents’ Association on the first Urban Hike of 2013 on February 9, 2013. As has been out custom, we will meet at Starbucks Coffee Shop at 10 a.m. The trek will take us west to the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. Leading the way will be DCRA Vice-President and Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization muckety-muck Joseph Giuliano, who has volunteered to guide us on Detroit Avenue to the heart of the re-vitalized neighborhood and talk about the continuing future development in the neighborhood. We will be stopping at Stone Mad Pub, 1306 West 65 Street [http://www.yelp.com/menu/stone-mad-pub-cleveland], which originally housed the Leisy Brewing Company and became a popular speakeasy during Prohibition, at the turn for lunch and then work off that meal on the return. Our guide, the incomparable Mr. Giuliano, is quite gregarious and has a booming voice. Bring appropriate hearing protection.
This is a four-and-a-half mile, relatively flat walk. The Farmers’ Almanac predicts for February 8 to 11: Flurries mainly over the Great Lakes; changeable skies elsewhere. Dress accordingly.
Call Bill at 216.469.9684 with any questions you may have and to confirm that you will be joining us.
